iron a shirt

Learn how to iron a shirt, and your life will become much easier. This skill can save you from having to pay out money for dry cleaning and will have you looking sharp.

Ironing a shirt is not that hard to do but there are a few tips that will help you along the way.

Things you will need:

1. Ironing Board – I prefer the large version that stands above my waist. This is much better than its smaller counterpart for in home use. Buy the smaller one only if you plan on packing it up for frequent travel.

2. The Iron – Look for one that has a button to shoot both water and steam out of it. This will save you from having to get a spray bottle and possibly a steam cleaner.

How to Iron a Shirt:

1. Set up your ironing board in a place where it cannot fall over.

2. Fill your iron up with cold water.

3. Set the iron to the temperature your shirt has specified.

4. Plug the iron into an outlet and stand it up on your ironing board.

5. Spread your shirt out on the ironing board using natural creases in the shirt to section pieces off.

6. Spray the shirt lightly with water using your iron.

7. Place the hot part of the iron onto the shirt and begin to move it vertically up and down the shirt in smooth strokes.

Be sure not to leave the iron on any one place of the shirt for more than a few seconds or it will start to burn and ruin your shirt.

8. Immediately place the shirt on a hanger when finished.

blue dress shirt

If you’re going for an interview, you should totally wear something of a conservative color. Even without a mention of a particular dress code, it would be better to stay on the safe side and go for something classic, tested and proven. In cases like interviews, most people seek refuge in men’s blue dress shirts. Their credibility as an outfit for something as crucial as job interview is established and verified. Blue dress shirts, particularly light blue or classic blue, are the safest men’s dress shirt to choose.

A men’s blue dress shirt is very versatile when you’re trying to pull of that smart and executive look. Don’t worry about buying blue dress shirts as they are a classic and are an everyday option. When wearing a light blue dress shirt, consider matching it with a yellow or gold tie for that cool summer look. Red, burgundy, gold or navy ties also work very well with most blue shirts. A classic blue can be worn with flexibility without being extremely plain unlike the white dress shirt that needs accessories to emphasize and highlight. Match it with a dark gray or black tie to pull off that formal look or just plainly wear it all by itself without any other upper compliments for that classic but casual, cool and laid-back get up.

black model

With so many colors in mens shirts today it is sometimes difficult to know what shirt goes with what pants and what color shirts should be worn on for different occasions. While many men find themselves drawn to black dress shirts, once they get them home they are never quite sure what to wear with them or what types of occasions these shirts are most suited for.

A Casual Look

One of the reasons men are drawn to black dress shirts is that black shirts no matter what style never seem to truly make it beyond the casual category. Unless you are the rare man that can make anything look stylish and formal it is best to avoid wearing that black shirt for job interviews and professional business meetings where the more formal business look is encouraged. That being said there are many occasions where a black dress shirt can make the perfect statement and even help you stand out and look smart.

Great Occasions to Wear a Black Dress Shirt

One occasion where a mens black dress suit can really stand out and make an impression is on a date where you want a dress casual look. Your date will be pleased that you took the trouble to wear a nice shirt, pants, and a tie for the occasion but did not go overboard. You can also wear a black dress shirt to the office if your dress policy is such that just dress shirts and pants are acceptable outfits. These shirts also go well at parties where you can either wear casual style slacks or jeans.

What Colors Go Well With a Black Dress Shirt

If you are going to wear a black dress shirt you are going to want to be extremely careful choosing what color of slacks and ties to go with this shirt. You are going to want to avoid wearing this shirt with a white suit unless you want to look to a movie hit man or someone who still disco dances. You also want to avoid a white tie and shoes as well. Most browns are also a pour choice to wear with your black suit as the two colors seem to class a bit and make you look a bit dull and boring. That being said here are some combination’s that look great with that black dress shirt.

Khaki pants in almost any shade except those tending to be more brown than tan will look great with your black shirt. Combine the pants with black shoes and belt.

Light gray also looks great with color of shirt whether you simply choose a pair of well cut dress pants or a suit. The paler the gray the more dressy the look. Combine this shirt and pant ensemble with a black belt, black, shoes, and a silver and gray striped tie for a really great look. You can also wear a light gray sweater without the tie for a more casual look.

There are other colors that will match well with a mens shirt including black pants with a red tie or sweater and Either black or blue jeans. Black shirts make great accessories to your wardrobe if you know what colors to match your shirt with.

Polos are one of the essentials of a gentleman’s wardrobe. You can easily wear them in a dressy or casual manner. There are hundreds of different types of polos you can choose from, but I’ve narrowed the polo types and brands down to make the 1st official Polo List.

A mini-history lesson: The polo shirt was first known as a tennis shirt. It was designed by 7-time French Grand Slam tennis pro, Rene Lacoste. He designed it because he needed a more comfortable shirt to play tennis in. He first wore it in the 1926 US Open Championship and in 1927 he added the crocodile emblem. Polo players began to heavily wear the shirt in the 1930s (after Lacoste began to mass produce them)- hence the nickname “polo shirt”. In 1972 Ralph Lauren included the “polo shirt” as a prominent part of his line called Polo- to further boost popularity. Many English speaking westerners started calling the tennis shirt a “polo shirt” on a widespread level because of Ralph Lauren immense popularity . . . see, you learn something new everyday :-) okay, back to the list. . .

With Burberry you can do no wrong. The polos are just about as classic as Ralph Lauren and Lacoste. The best thing about Burberry polos is the high-quality material and rich colors.

vintageshirt2

This ecru shirt with navy stripes form the Levi’s Vintage collection for Autumn 2010 pulls directly form the deep archives of the Levi’s heritage. Expect to pay around $75 U.S. for this shirt.

Here there is another model from the Levi´s Vintage Collection…

Given the ridonkulously fast pace that fashion moves at, it’s easy to end up habitually wishing for the next season to happen. We prefer the slow route, so we’ll focus on pieces that you could wear right now (if you’re in a warm climate of course). This Levi’s top isn’t going to change the design world but it looks good in  pictures, looks better on and would suit just about any type of trouser you have in your wardrobe. And sometimes that’s all you can ask for.

Sin título-2

You MUST have a white shirt in your wardrobe, and i´m sure you probably do. A white shirt just can be used with anytihng; formal wear, weddings, casual occasions… White shirts (and black also) can be used with any tie color and pattern, here we have two examples: a white shirt with a pink tie and a blue tie with straight lines. Both look perfect with a white shirt, so next time you go to a store think about buying a white shirt…

The white shirt with the blue tie…
